The Italian Team Will Field Two Cars In Debut Season

Daytona Beach, FL - April 7th, 2015 - A new team will make its debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The Double-T Racing team was unveiled today by Team Owner Onofrio Veneziani, an Italian manager who supervised many successful drivers’ careers. The team has its headquarter in Rome but the operational base is located in Milan, where technical support will be provided by the DAV Racing engineers logistical support by Scuderia PCR, in order to prepare the two Chevrolets that will take part the upcoming 2015 official European NASCAR Series.

The team’s lineup is varied and extremely competitive: the two Chevys will be driven by 2014 Challenger Trophy Winner Fabrizio Armetta, ELITE 2 Division young revelation Gianmarco Ercoli, expert GT driver Roberto Benedetti and Gentleman Trophy runner-up Simone Laureti. Thanks to sponsorship from Scuderia PCR, the team will become a natural destination for young kart drivers willing to enter the NASCAR world, building an important link between karting and professional motorsport.

"We are proud and really excited for what we have done until now, it’s a totally new project based on the qualities of TT Management for the organization, DAV Racing on the technical side and Scuderia PCR for the logistics," commented Onofrio Veneziani, Double-T Racing Team Principal. "Valencia will be our first race ever in Motorsports. We will probably have to reduce an initial gap, but we have four very strong drivers that will help us improve quickly. We are all Rome natives and we are friends even before being teammates. This is the best way to start a new challenge".

The Double-T Racing project has a long term plan: "Ercoli is a concrete example of how a young driver coming from the karting can build a solid future as a pro driver in the NASCAR world. Thanks to Scuderia PCR, we can create an important road to motorsport for the champions of tomorrow".

The team will enter the championship with a Chevrolet Camaro and a Chevrolet SS. The #12 SS will be shared by 2014 Challenger Trophy winner Fabrizio Armetta and Simone Laureti, who was in contention for the Gentleman Trophy until the last race of the 2014 season.

Armetta’s goal for the season is to defend the Trophy that will grant him a race in the American NASCAR this year. "It’s a completely new challenge for me with a debuting team. DAV Racing is a guarantee of quality and we will see their typical open-wheel method applied to NASCAR racing. - said Armetta, who posted 3 Top 5 and 5 Top 10 in 2014 - It’s a bet, but I’m ready to fight again to defend my title and improve my position in the standings. I like very much the team, being all friends will help us to grow better and faster. I hope to enjoy myself as much as last year, and when I say enjoy myself I mean reaching the Top 5 in each race."

"I’m really happy to be part of Double-T Racing and I’m sure that with DAV Racing support we will be able to get very good results - declared Laureti, 2014 Gentlemen Trophy runner-up with 2 Top 5 and 8 Top 10 in the overall classification - This year I want to enter the Top 5 in the ELITE 2 Division and of course the Gentleman Trophy is another interesting goal. I have one year of NASCAR experience under my belt and I’m sure I can improve. I’m also really happy to share the car with Fabrizio Armetta. He’s a strong driver and a great friend"

Veteran Roberto Benedetti and ROK Kart World Champion Gianmarco Ercoli will drive the #69 Chevrolet Camaro. "I’m excited, I want to be back on track as soon as possible - commented the 19 year-old Italian driver - After the experience gained last year, I feel ready to aim at the top of the standings." Ercoli was often close to victory last year, but he had to surrender to the bad luck. The amazing comeback from the back of the grid to the second place in the Le Mans Finals is where he wants to start from in 2015: "The team is on his debut but with DAV Racing and Scuderia PCR we have all we need to be competitive. The first test session gave us a positive feedback and encouraged us for our first race in Valencia. I’m really happy to share the car with Roberto, he’s a fast and very expert driver," concluded Ercoli, who got 3 Top 5 and 6 Top 10 in his NASCAR debut season.

In the ELITE 1 Division, the #69 Camaro will be driven by Roberto Benedetti, an expert GT and Touring driver always close to american cars: "I like a lot these European NASCAR cars, I found in them the typical feeling of the American racing cars from the first time I drove it. It will be all new for me, I will have to learn many things, these cars are really different from all what we have in Europe, but I will have good team-mates and this will help me a lot - said Benedetti - I’m sure that with DAV Racing and Scuderia PCR support we will reach important goals this year. I want to enter more time as possible in the Top 10, trying to fight for the Challenge Trophy classification."

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is the only championship in the old continent officially sanctioned by NASCAR. The 2015 season will start on April 25 and 26 in Valencia, with the second edition of Valencia American Fest. The Series will race in the Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Italy and Belgium, with four races for each appointment. The NASCAR european series is the only series with two real oval tracks in the calendar - Venray Raceway in May and Tours Speedway in June - and all the races are integrated in family-dedicated events.
