Myers Looks To Continue Winning Streak He Began Last Year

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 1, 2015) - Burt Myers is no stranger to Victory Lane or the record books. The veteran is enjoying one of his best seasons to date in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and is currently locked in a tight battle with his younger brother, Jason, for a second tour title.

This weekend he’ll attempt to pick up his third consecutive win at Langley Speedway in the Bayport Credit Union 150 presented by Budweiser in Hampton, Virginia. If the Walnut Cove driver can score the victory, he would become just the third driver to win at least three consecutive races at one track.

L.W. Miller holds the overall record with five straight wins at Caraway Speedway between the 2006-07 seasons and Andy Seuss most recently scored four in a row at Caraway between the 2013-14 campaigns.

“We just want to go to Langley and do what we’ve been doing and it’s been very successful for us so far the past couple of races,” Myers said. “We have found something that our car likes when we race there and we are going to try and get another win and see what happens. It’s not going to be easy though.”

Despite not scoring a win yet this season, Jason Myers has used consistency to remain in the hunt for his first championship. He’s the only driver to finish in the top 10 in every race this season and enters Langley with a two-point advantage over his brother.

The younger Myers also has a win at Langley edging Frank Fleming for the victory in 2012. Other drivers slated to compete at Langley on Saturday that have won tour events there include George Brunnhoelzl III, Kyle Ebersole and Andy Seuss.

Bayport 150 Notes

And Then There Was One: There have been six different race winners in seven NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events at Langley Speedway. Tim Brown won the tour’s inaugural race there on Sept. 4, 2010 and Burt Myers scored his second win in April at Langley. Hickory Motor Speedway (two races) is now the only track on this year’s schedule that does not have a repeat winner.

New Points Leader, Again?: Jason and Burt Myers have exchanged the lead at the top of the NWSMT standings twice this year and it could happen a third time after Saturday night. Jason Myers, who retook the lead after Bristol, holds a slim lead over his brother as the duo attempt to finish first-second in the standings for the first time in tour history.

Tight Battle at the Top: The chase for the 2015 championship is tightening up as the top five in the standings enter Langley Speedway separated by just 12 points. Jason Myers leads Burt Myers 269-267, with Andy Seuss third with 265. Kyle Ebersole is fourth with 260 points and J.R. Bertuccio is fifth with 257 points.

Home Tracks: Danny Edwards Jr., Greg Edwards and Brenden Queen In Tight Points Battle

Defending track champion Greg Edwards trails points leader Danny Edwards Jr. by 10 points (336-326) heading in to the final month of the season in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock standings. Both drivers have scored five wins each this season. Despite not scoring a win this season, Brenden Queen sits closely in third place, just five points behind Greg Edwards.
