Successful Weekend at Laguna Seca

IMSA • September 17, 2013

It was a great few days at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last weekend with Marsh Racing for the penultimate round of the 2013 GRAND-AM Road Racing season. The #31 Whelen / Team Fox Corvette has always been strong in Monterey and the team had high hopes for a fantastic result. The team entered the weekend after a successful and knowledgeable test day at Roebling Road in Savannah, Georgia with next season's Corvette Daytona Prototype.

"We struggled a bit with the gearing and suspension setups early in the weekend, but the team kept at it and nailed it by the green flag for Sunday's race. Boris had a great car for qualifying where he put the #31 Corvette in P2 for the starting grid. The Marsh Racing boys worked hard all weekend without giving up and gave me and Boris a car that was fast enough for the podium."

Boris qualified the Whelen / Team Fox Corvette in second with a lap time of 1:27.628 for yet another Chevrolet front row. At the start, he battled hard with John Edwards in the #57 Camaro until the first round of pit stops under a full course yellow. The pit crew performed a flawless pit stop with a driver change but the #31 came back out on track in P5 due to pit-lane traffic and pit sequences.

With Eric now in the car, he charged back through to the front of the field running a lap time capable of conserving the tires while also being competitive. By the final stint, the #31 Team Fox / Whelen Corvette had run in the top five for the entirety of the race and led for a good portion.

"This successful weekend in California shows how strong our program really is. We had great pit stops and ran in the top five all race long. The #31 was capable of winning, but we will take a podium finish after a tough last couple of races. We lost a little time in the last pit stop and that put us back but I had a Corvette that was fast enough to charge back towards the front. I struggled with the #63 Ferrari some as he blocked lap after lap. Coming into turn two, he broke surprisingly early resulting in minimal contact between our two cars."

"It was a great race right to the last lap. The Marsh Racing team has had a tough couple of races, so it's really good for us to get this third place finish here in California. Im Really happy for all of these guys at Marsh Racing and thankful for their hard work which definitely paid off this weekend. Im happy for Team Fox and Whelen Engineering as this was a big day with great results and the beginning of our Daytona Prototype Program."
