Our Engineering Expertise

We are creators, inventors, engineers, and designers finding solutions to complex problems with first responder and motorist safety. For over 65 years, our innovation has been guided by creativity, firsthand experience, process, and engineering excellence.

At Whelen, we pride ourselves on consistently producing high-quality products. That doesn’t start on the manufacturing floor; it starts in our engineering facility where we ideate our products. We push ourselves to innovate new and improved products constantly. When we release a product, we already begin to think about how we can improve the current design and configuration as it is released into the market.

Our passionate team has the resources to lead the industry in breakthrough innovation at our two facilities in New England. We bring together expansive knowledge and state-of-the-art resources to turn ideas into real-world impact as efficiently as possible. All our products are designed and manufactured in the United States and our on-site testing lab ensures the highest quality final product.

For over 65 years, this process has been guided by creativity, firsthand experience, and process. As we continue to lead the market with innovations, we intend to follow the same course of action.

Creativity

With products such as Arges® and CenCom Core®, we are creating technological advancements in automated control that our industry has never seen before. We constantly drive for change and innovation in the field by working together to spark new ideas. We lead by challenging the current standard and aiming for the seemingly impossible. As we move forward, we evaluate the current needs of the markets we serve and come up with creative solutions to make their experience in the field better.

First Responder Experience

Customer problems are our problems at Whelen. We have an added connection to the problems we solve, as many members of our team are proud first responders. We have a personal understanding of what can help the industry as well as a personal motivation to improve safety in any way we can.

Meet some of Whelen’s employees as they speak to the benefit of first responder’s hands in the process as we make of our products below.

Full Process

We practice design-led thinking here at Whelen. We approach product development and design by evaluating market insights, understanding user problems, and compensating behaviors. After narrowing in on the most crucial problems, we apply divergent thinking to identify all possible solutions. While this solution may take longer, we believe the personalized understanding offers stronger products for our markets.

Watch below as several Whelen employees talk through the engineering capabilities at Whelen.

Testing

Our certified environmental and performance testing lab is located at our Connecticut headquarters. This lab is crucial to first responders who trust our products each and every day to save lives. Inside, our engineers use advanced equipment to heat, freeze, push, shake, and otherwise test our products. If our products succeed here, they succeed anywhere.

Always Looking Ahead

Whelen is constantly prototyping new products and technologies. These projects are kept under wraps so our early-stage development teams can research, learn, and experiment with concepts until they are ready to bring them to life. We look forward to how our future innovations can assist first responders around the world.
