Electrical Controls Engineer

Summary: Creates, designs, tests and oversees the development of new electrical controls systems and troubleshoots and maintains existing electrical controls systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for small to medium projects or multiple tasks within functional discipline
• Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of the discipline
• Works with moderate guidance and team collaboration on projects with short to medium-term focus
• Must be able to change focus between projects as required by the current needs of the company
• Has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline and role—continuing to develop specialized knowledge
• Works with PLCs, industrial computers, HMIs, drives, etc. to program new and troubleshoot existing controls systems from a variety of manufacturers and integrators
• Integrates components of controls systems with each other and with other controls systems
• Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements
• Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
• Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
• Uses standard electrician’s tools to build new and troubleshoot existing controls systems

Education and Experience:

• BA/BS degree w/2–5+ years’ experience or MA/MS degree w/0–2+ years’ experience
