CenCom Core Power Connector

TPA# 20-002

Issued By: Bryan Mather

Date: October 2020

This TPA is for general informational purposes only.
No action is required when using the power connector provided within the CenCom Core install kit.

AFFECTED PRODUCTS:

  • CenCom Core

BACKGROUND:

The 4-pin power plug on CenCom Core has a different pin configuration than CenCom Sapphire, Carbide, and CanTrol.

ISSUE:

When installing a CenCom Core into a vehicle which previously had a CenCom Carbide, Sapphire, or CanTrol system, or when installing CenCom Core in a Ford vehicle which has the “Ready for the Road” or “Ultimate Wiring Package”, the power connector must be re-pinned to the correct pinout, otherwise the power connector provided within the CenCom Core install kit must be used.

CenCom Core has integrated reverse polarity protection; however, damage may still occur if CenCom Core is connected to a computer via the USB-C port and the power connection is reversed.

SOLUTION:

If installing CenCom Core into a vehicle which previously had a CenCom Carbide, Sapphire, or CanTrol system, or using a power harness other than the harness provided within the CenCom Core [C399] install kit, the power pinout must be verified and corrected, as required.

Note: Care should be taken to ensure the pin orientation is correct when re-inserting into the housing. Once all pins are re-inserted, place the retainer clip back over the housing, securing the pins within the housing.
